A tourist guide accompanies visitors and interprets places, environments, cultures and histories in a way that is accurate, respectful and safe. Guiding happens in cities and townships, at heritage sites and museums, in nature reserves, on hiking trails and along multi-day routes across the country.
Tourist guiding is a regulated profession in South Africa. People who provide tourist-guiding services for reward must follow the applicable qualification and registration requirements, including registration with the relevant Provincial Registrar.
